The viral lion cat carrier bag: what it is, where to buy it, and which size fits

The lion cat carrier bag is a canvas shoulder tote with a hole at one end, ringed by a plush mane, so your cat travels with its face sticking out of a lion. It turns up under a dozen near-identical listings from sellers you have never heard of, most of them created in the last few weeks, and the specifications vary more than the photos do.

Here is what is actually documented, what is not, and which listing is worth your money.

What the lion cat carrier bag actually is

Strip the mane off and it is a soft-sided tote: cotton canvas body, a zip along the top, a padded shoulder strap, and a drawstring opening at one end. There is no frame, no base board, and no top-loading door. It is closer to a lion mane cat tote than to anything you would call a carrier.

That matters for what you use it for. A structured carrier protects a cat in a car and gives it somewhere to brace. This does neither. It is for short walks, errands and photos — which, to be fair, is exactly what people are buying it for.

Which size fits your cat

This is where the listings separate.

The HISKI listing is the only one that publishes usable numbers: two sizes, roughly 17.3 x 15.7 in and 15.7 x 13.7 in. The AULCTR listing describes the same shape and drawstring opening but states colours rather than dimensions. Others say nothing at all.

No listing we checked states a weight limit. Ignore the "up to X lb" framing you may see elsewhere and measure instead: chest to tail base for length, and around the widest part of the ribcage for girth. A cat needs to be able to lie down in the bag, not just fit in it.

Is a cat carrier with a head hole actually safe?

The head opening closes on a drawstring down to about 7 in. That stops a cat easing itself forward. It does not stop a cat that has decided to leave.

The listing is candid about this in passing — it describes the opening cinching down "when paired with the harness". In other words the bag is designed around the assumption that your cat is wearing a harness clipped to something. Use it that way: harness on, lead attached, supervised, short trips. Do not put a cat in one and set it down.

Lion mane cat tote: Amazon or Etsy?

Amazon has the mass-produced version — several sellers, near-identical product, and the listing churn that comes with novelty gear. Etsy has handmade and small-batch versions, usually with the sizing stated properly because a maker knows what they built.

If the Amazon listings are out of stock by the time you read this, that is normal for this category. The Etsy link in the block above is a search, not a specific product, so it keeps working when individual listings do not.

Will it arrive before Halloween?

Checked on 16 September 2026: none of these listings ship with Prime, and every delivery estimate landed around 28 September. Ordering in September is fine. Ordering in late October is not — if you need something that arrives in days rather than weeks, the bat-wings harness is the one that ships fast.

What we checked, and when

We verified all four listings on 16 September 2026 by loading each product page directly. Three are sold through the brand's own storefront; one is a marketplace reseller, which is why the block above promotes the others first. Availability in this category changes weekly, so the "last checked" date under the block is the one to trust.
