The bat cat carrier everyone is asking about — and what you can actually buy

People are searching for a bat cat carrier — a black bag with wings standing off it, your cat riding inside with its face out. Search Amazon for that and you will find results, which is the problem: they are not the same thing, and the listings do not go out of their way to tell you.

What comes back is bat print, not bat wings. Here is how to tell, and what does have wings.

What Amazon actually sells: print, not wings

We looked at every relevant result for "bat wing cat carrier bag" on 16 September 2026. Eleven of the fourteen results were bat-themed. Not one had structural wings. They are ordinary pet slings, tote purses and mesh backpacks with a bat design printed on the fabric.

The tell is repetition. One seller lists "Bat with Outstretched Wings", "Metallic Black and Purple Wing" and "Orange Cat with White Wings" as three separate products — with word-for-word identical bullet points and the same 6.1 x 6.7 in folded size. A second seller has four bat colourways, all at 13.4 x 6.1 x 10.2 in, all with the same description. A third has "Printed" in the title and means it.

That is print-on-demand: one blank bag, many pieces of artwork. There is nothing wrong with buying one — a bat-print sling is a perfectly good bag and some of them look great — as long as you know you are buying a graphic, not a silhouette. None of the ones we checked ship with Prime, and several add two to five days of handling before they dispatch.

What does have wings: the harness

Amazon's one genuine winged product is not a carrier at all. It is a harness: felt wings measuring about 8.07 x 2.56 in, cut from 2 mm felt and sewn onto adjustable straps, sold with a matching leash and a small pumpkin charm. The wings weigh well under a tenth of a pound.

Sewn wings matter more than they sound. The common failure on cheap novelty harnesses is a wing that is glued or clipped on and comes off the first time the cat rolls. Both of these state reinforced stitching at the join.

So it is a costume for a cat that walks, rather than a bag to carry one in. If what you wanted was the bag, skip to the last section.

The sizing gap nobody mentions

The two listings are not two sellers of one product — they are two different sizes, and between them they leave a hole.

A cat measuring 12 or 13 in around the chest fits neither. That is not a rare cat, either — it is a small adult or a large kitten. If yours lands there, medium pulled to its tightest is the safer of the two mistakes, because a harness that is slightly loose at the chest still holds if the neck strap is snug, whereas one that is too small simply will not close.

Measure first: a soft tape just behind the front legs for the chest, and around the base of the neck. Do it over the coat, not pulled tight.

Is it safe?

It is a costume, and the safe way to use a costume is short and supervised.

The listings both use the phrase "escape proof". No cat harness is. A cat that panics can reverse out of most harnesses, and adding wings gives it something to catch on fences, furniture and its own claws. Put it on for photos, a garden wander or a party, stay with the cat the whole time, and take it off afterwards. Do not leave a cat alone wearing it, indoors or out.

If your cat has never worn a harness, this is not the harness to learn on. Fit a plain one first, indoors, over several sessions.

If you want the bag, not the harness

The bags in the clips — wings standing proud of a structured body — are handmade. Etsy is where that kind of thing lives: small batches, often one maker, usually with the dimensions stated properly because someone actually built it. The trade-off is availability, which is why the Etsy link in the block above is a search rather than a single product.

What we checked, and when

Both harness listings were verified on 16 September 2026 by loading each product page directly: in stock, Prime-eligible, next-day and two-day delivery estimates respectively. Both are sold by marketplace sellers rather than by the brand itself, which is normal in this category and is noted on the block above.

We also read every bat-themed carrier result on the first page of search and checked the listings individually. "None of them have real wings" is a claim about what we could find on one day in one category that turns over weekly — if you find one that does, we would like to know.
